The Slate Valley is a 24-mile stretch of Vermont that runs along the New York border, from Granville, New York to Rupert, Vermont, and then to Fair Haven, Vermont. It's about six miles wide and has been a source of slate since 1848. The Slate Valley is the only place in the world where such a wide variety of slate colors can be found. The chemical and mineral composition of the slate produces a variety of colors.
