Slate Valley Epic: July 16 - 17, 2022

The Slate Valley Epic is a 40+ mile, over 5,000 feet vertical mountain bike race on Vermont’s newest and best single & double-track trails in the Slate Valley of southwestern Vermont in Poultney, VT.

About the Slate Valley Epic

Join Slate Valley Trails (SVT) on July 16- 17, 2022 for the second year of the Slate Valley Epic mountain bike race and relay! Riders can expect some of the best singletrack riding with plenty of climbing and extraordinary views of southwestern Vermont and the Slate Valley. Join us for an event that will surely challenge you, and be a memorable day in the Vermont woods!


The Slate Valley Epic will hit all 6 peaks at SVT: Cliffhanger, Big Top, Carnie, Birdie, Rocky Ridge and Rusty Bucket with endless views of this beautiful region.  

The Details

  • Registration opens on March 1st, 2022 at 12:01am.  Register here:  https://www.bikereg.com/slate-valley-epic
  • Race starts at 7:30 AM and will begin and end at the Slate Valley Trails' Fairgrounds trailhead located at 131 Town Farm Rd, Poultney, VT.    
  • There will be an 8 hour time limit, so final timed racer ends at 4:30 PM. 
  • Races will start in groups of 20 for social distancing and rider spacing
  • Signup with your friends by choosing your group
  • Prizes for top finishers. 
  • Limit 200 participants for Epic race.  No e-bikes.   
  • This is a cupless race! Racers are encouraged to bring a water bottle to refill at the cupless aid stations set up along the course that will also have snacks. 
  • NEW for 2022 is camping, music and Sunday’s fun Relay with full tune up by Evergreen Bike Shop given away to one lucky random participant!
  • Sunday’s Relay Race will be a family friendly conclusion to our EPIC weekend with our first ever SVT MTB Relay! Race, mosey, wander, hike a bike or whatever speed takes your fancy, taking turns with family and friends to conquer our 2 mile course and obstacles as many times as you can
  • For Relay - 10 AM start and 1 PM finish, 40 Team limit. No e-bikes. 
  • In the event of a big storm where riders could ruin the trails, a  rain date is scheduled.
  • SVT events follow Vermont COVID-19 guidelines. You will be asked to sign a COVID-19 waiver at race check-in. https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19
