White-tailed deer must conserve energy so they can survive the long winter. Deer wintering habitat allows deer to conserve energy by providing them shelter from deep snow and wind, and plenty of food sources. Please help us protect the deer herd by avoiding this key habitat during the core winter months. Dogs need to be kept under control and close by as to not scare wintering deer.
The following trails will be closed from 12/15-04/15
With the arrival of spring, the frozen earth thaws from the top down, with the frozen bottom layer providing a barrier to drainage. As the surface melts, water pools and saturates the top layer of our roads, woods, and – of course – trails. As temps fluctuate, it can take weeks for the frozen earth to fully thaw down to the frost line and allow for proper drainage. In order to preserve our trails, SVT will close the trail system to give it enough time to dry out. Mud season closures usually happen sometime in March and all of the trails at SVT will be closed for a period of time before reopening for the new trail season.
